I see the horizon
So far yet so near
All I have to do is jump
And learn not to fear

I feel the world caving in
Time to be strong
Find a path right for me
Learn from  right and wrong

My tears are useless now
Can't run back and hide
Gotta stand tall and proud
Find my spirit deep down inside

I feel so afraid
But now I know it's my turn
Time to spread my wings
And find what I can learn

This heart so broken
No matter how often you warned me
How great the pain of love is
Now I know the price of being free

Close my eyes and smile
I'm no longer afraid of the night
Now I must follow my own stars
And make my own guiding light

I promise never to forget
Where I learned to fly
No more dancing in shadows
It's time to say my first good-bye

I can already taste the sins of this world
A walk through the rain is a shower of sorrows
But I still see a light ahead
It never leaves me and I never lose sight
Until now I've been so blind
Time to grow up
Time to learn to how to fly

I guess this is what they mean
When they say I'm eight-teen.

There are two certainties in life for human beings. We are born, and we die. Those are the only things we can count on in our lives. The rest is up to us. We do not all love, or are loved, nor are we all talented at certain gifts. We do not all have hope, or family, faith or compassion. Many of us don't ever really live to begin with. Each and everyone of us is different.

Some of us grow up while others are never given the chance. The moment, moments, or period of time where we 'grow up' is also different for everyone. For some it is like an epiphiny, others a long process of trials and errors. But when you really look at it, growing up may not necessarily mean becoming an adult. Maybe it means to have an understanding of yourself and the world around you in the only way you can. Through the eyes you were born with.

***Edit 2008: Just took out a word or tw that were bugging me. Otherwise it's the same poem.***

I like the feelings your poem convey. For me, it's hope, and inspiration, and maybe a little ambition. I think it could apply to anyone, not just an 18-year old. Those are some of the thoughts I've been having lately - and I'm 26.... :rose:
